Program for The Catholic Church's celebration of the national "Olsok" feast is now ready!

"The planning for "Olsok" - the feast of St. Olav - started early in January, and thanks to hardworking colleagues the program is now complete", says a happy Unn Madsø, leader of the national Olsok committee and chancellor of Trondheim diocese. In addition to the Norwegian version, the program is also published in English, German and French, both as a leaflet and on internett. The program and the form for registering for the events you need to pre-book for can be found under "Olsok 2014" in the menue on the left of this page.

It is the liturgy which is the central focus for the Olsok celebration. In this, our cantor Ulf Schancke has made an invaluable contribution. Everything has been gathered in the Catholic pilgrim-booklet «Be for oss hellig Olav» (Pray for us St. Olav), which was published last year. It is available in St. Eystein bookshop both now and during Olsok. Here you will find the texts for Vespers and Lauds, hymns and mass texts. Also included are the texts for the "Walk with St. Olav towards Christ" - a walk offered through Trondheim during Olsok to sites in the city where there are mementoes of St.Olav. The walk is led by lead by p.Egil Mogstad and Cantor Ulf Schancke.

This booklet is a must for all who want to participate in the celebrations with the greatest possible benefit, says Unn Madsø.

She adds that in her opinion, we have developed a comprehensive and varied program for Olsok in Trondheim. This year's program follows the outline of earlier years, which we have received positive responses to. The first event is on Saturday 26. July in the morning, with a visit to the Birgittine Sisters in their new monastery at Tiller.

Congregations and groups which plan a pilgrimage to Olsok in Trondheim and Stiklestad will also this year have the opportunity to celebrate several pontifical masses, both on the Monastery Outing to Tautra and Munkeby and in the Nidaros Cathedral with the Bishops Bernt Eidsvig og Berislav Grgic.

This year we have to improvise somewhat, since the Catholic St. Olav Cathedral in Trondheim will be demolished by Olsok (hopefully), to make space for the New St. Olav Cathedral. The opening mass on Saturday night will thus take place in Ilen Church, a short walk from St. Olav.

Good food and the opportunity to meet socially also play an important part in our Catholic Olsok celebration. This is also provided for, and the Olsok committee in Trondheim extends a warm welcome to everyone to come and celebrate Olsok here from the 26 – 29. July.
