The first martyr of the Church: Saint Stephen

St. Stephen was a Greek-speaking Jew, and we know him from the Acts of the Apostles chapters 6 and 7. He was born in Jerusalem around the same time as Jesus, and he was the first Christian who was killed because of his faith.

St. Stephen is venerated as The First Martyr of the Church and serves as an example for all later martyrs.
