Youth gathering in the Interim Church

In December 2015, Fr. Piotr, as spiritual advisor and Isabel Bjørnaas as co-ordinator, called a meeting of all the leaders of the many youth groups in the parish: the altar servers, the Polish group, the Africans, the Norwegians, Kultro (Catholic Youth Group in Trondheim), the confirmation group and Albert Magnus Student Group. Our main goals for this meeting were firstly to get to know each other and to establish one coordinated group and secondly to make plans and schedule activities for the next six months so that everyone would become more engaged in the Church and its evangelization.

Our first activity was on 14. January 2016, where 32 people from different national groups gathered for evening mass led by Fr. Slawomir. The youth prepared songs with the help of two guitarists and a pianist. They also prepared prayers in five languages; Norwegian, English, Lithuanian, Polish and Vietnamese.

After mass, Fr. Piotr had prepared a liturgy and renewal of the baptismal vows and a message from Pope Francis in connection with the World Youth Day, all followed by English songs. After the readings, the youth renewed their baptismal promise with a procession, crossing themselves with holy water and lighting candles offered up to Divine Mercy. After the procession, they sang the Our Father, with final blessings from Fr. Piotr. A social gathering followed, with pizza and drinks. The young people were very happy to start the new year with mass and prayers.

The next activity will be at the end of February. This will take the form of a leadership seminar led by Fr. Khiem, serving priest for NUK (Norway's Young Catholics). His aim is to help, maintain and support leaders and enthusiastic members of the local youth congregations. Our vicar general, Fr. Ole Martin, has invited all the parishes to invite 3-5 suitable candidates in Mid Norway to Levanger on 26.-28. February. Participants' fee is NOK 300 and transportation fees are NOK 350 per person.

Further activities include praying the Stations of the Cross with meditation after evening mass on Thursday 17. March. (St. Patrick's Day!)

We look forward with the hope that these activities will keep the youth movements alive in our parish in the future.
